Stylist and Designer for Miss Bahamas Universe
Valentino Omar by Valentino Laing
Born and raised on the sunny island paradise of Nassau, Bahamas, Valentino always showed promise of great artistic and entrepreneurial greatness. Winning prizes and gaining recognition for his creative art work and drawings since elementary school, he was encouraged to pursue a life in the creative arts. Decorating his classrooms and sketching outfits for friends and family quickly became a business when he worked as an apprentice and helper to some of the country’s leading designers. Sabrina Francis taught him fundamental things about fabrics and how to use a machine, while Shane Rollé taught him how to bring his creative expressions to life. This is how the dream of starting his own design label began.
As an award winning Junior Achievement (JA) officer, Valentino also learnt business management operation skills in order to be prepared for when he would soon turn his passion into a brand … the -“Valentino Omar” brand … and to think, he was only a junior in high school.
After graduating from H. O. Nash Secondary High School in Nassau, Bahamas in 1997, Valentino worked his way into the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. Being in a new environment filled with like minded creatives proved to be the best thing for him as it gave him the freedom to try new and exciting things in new and exciting ways. He created patterns, recreated looks for fashion forward friends and clients, making wedding dresses and pageant gowns and special event looks for a growing list of Bahamian society girls and the “in the know” sector of south Florida and throughout the southern United States.
You can see his work featured on his latest and most exciting client, the beautiful and energetic Afro-Latina sensation, Amara La Negra.
